Description

Φωτογραφία του ταφικού τύμβου στον Αγ. Ιωάννη Παπουλίων. Ο τύμβος, που ανασκάφηκε κατά την περίοδο 1954-55 από τον Σπ. Μαρινάτο, περιείχε ταφές σε πίθους διατεταγμένους ακτινωτά προς την περιφέρειά του και παράλληλα προς το έδαφος. Το πιο ιδιαίτερο χαρακτηριστικό είναι η πεταλόσχημη κατασκευή στο κέντρο του τύμβου, πιθανώς κενοτάφιο. (EL)

Photograph of the burial tumulus at Agios Ioannis, Papoulia. The Middle Helladic tumulus, which was excavated by Sp. Marinatos in 1954-55, contained burials in jars placed in a radiant aray and parallel to the ground. Its most outstanding feature is the horseshoe-shaped construction in the centre of the tumuluts, which probably served as a cenotaph. (EN)
