Description

Η εκκλησία της Παρηγορήτισσας υπήρξε καθολικό μεγάλου μοναστηριού. Αφιερωμένη στον Ευαγγελισμό της Θεοτόκου, είναι από τα πιο σημαντικά μνημεία της Άρτας και κατέχει εξέχουσα θέση στην ιστορία της βυζαντινής τέχνης. Η σημερινή της μορφή οφείλεται στις οικοδομικές εργασίες του Νικηφόρου Α΄ Κομνηνού Δούκα και της συζύγου του Άννας Παλαιολογίνα, στα τέλη του 13ου , τους οποίους αναφέρει και η κτητορική επιγραφή πάνω από το υπέρθυρο της δυτικής εισόδου. Ακολουθεί τον πρωτότυπο αρχιτεκτονικό τύπο που συνδυάζει τον οκταγωνικό στο ισόγειο με τον σταυροειδή εγγεγραμμένο στον όροφο και ενσωματώνει στη δομή του τον αρχικό, μικρότερων διαστάσεων ναό, κτισμένο στον τύπο του σύνθετου σταυροειδούς εγγεγραμμένου από τον δεσπότη Μιχαήλ Β΄Κομνηνό Δούκα (α’ μισό 13 αιώνα). Εξαιρετικό ενδιαφέρον για την πολυμορφία και την πρωτοτυπία του παρουσιάζει ο γλυπτός διάκοσμος του μνημείου και οι αρράβδωτοι κίονες με παλαιοχριστιανικά κιονόκρανα, κορινθιακού τύπου, μεταφερμένοι από την αρχαία Νικόπολη. Τα ψηφιδωτά στο εσωτερικό χρονολογούνται στα τέλη του 13ου αιώνα και χαρακτηρίζονται για την άριστη τεχνική και τους τολμηρούς χρωματικούς συνδυασμούς. Σπάνια είναι η επιτύμβια παράσταση στο βόρειο παρεκκλήσιο που ανήκει στην παλαιότερη ζωγραφική φάση του ναού, στις αρχές του 15ου αι. Ακολουθούν άλλες δύο φάσεις τοιχογραφιών, τον 16ο και 17ο αιώνα. Parigoritissa church was a large monastery's katholikon (central church building). Dedicated to the Annunciation of the Virgin, it is one of the most important monuments of Arta and holds a prominent place in the history of Byzantine art. Its current form is due to the construction works of Nikiforos I Komnenos Doukas and his wife Anna Palaeologina at the end of the 13th century. Both are mentioned on the dedicatory inscription above the lintel of the west entrance. The original architectural type of the church combines the octagonal one on the ground floor to the cruciform inscribed on the first floor. The temple was initially smaller and built in the type of a complex, cruciform, inscribed temple by the despot Michael B' Komnenos Doukas (1st half of 13th century). The variety and originality of the monument's sculptural decoration and the grooveless columns adorned with early Christian Corinthian capitals from ancient Nikopolis are really interesting. The mosaics in the interior date back to the end of the 13th century and stand out for their excellent technique and bold color combinations. A rare funerary representation depicted in the northern chapel belongs to the older painting phase of the church and dates to the beginning of the 15th century. Two other phases of frescoes belong to the 16th and 17th centuries. (EN)
