Στο Διδασκαλείο Κρήτης στο Ηράκλειο λειτουργούσε δανειστική βιβλιοθήκη από την έναρξη της λειτουργίας του το 1901. Επρόκειτο για μια πολύ σημαντική υπηρεσία, που παρείχε μορφωτικά μέσα στους σπουδαστές και τις σπουδάστριες της εποχής. Άλλωστε, στα πρώτα χρόνια λειτουργίας του Διδασκαλείου δεν είχε ακόμη ιδρυθεί στο Ηράκλειο δημοτική βιβλιοθήκη, η οποία ιδρύθηκε το 1908. Στον τελευταίο σωζόμενο συγκεντρωτικό κατάλογο βιβλίων του Διδασκαλείου εντοπίστηκαν 666 τίτλοι, ενταγμένοι σε 5 Ταξιθετικές Κατηγορίες (Τ.Κ.): α. Γράμματα - Επιστήμαι – Τέχναι. β. Επιστημονικά. γ. Ελεύθερα αναγνώσματα. δ. Βοηθητικά. ε. Διδακτικά. Η ανωτέρω ταξινόμηση δεν αντιστοιχούσε σε κάποια αυστηρή θεματική κατηγοριοποίηση με δεδομένο ότι ορισμένα βιβλία ίδιας θεματικής ταξινομήθηκαν σε διαφορετικές Τ.Κ..
Η Τ.Κ. «Γράμματα - Επιστήμαι – Τέχναι» περιελάμβανε βιβλία που αφορούσαν την ελληνική και ξένη λογοτεχνία, τη θεωρία της λογοτεχνίας, την ιστορία, τη φιλοσοφία, τη λαογραφία και τη θρησκειολογία.
Το βιβλίο "Επίτομη ιστορία των Αθηνών" ανήκε στην κατηγορία «Γράμματα - Επιστήμαι - Τέχναι» της δανειστικής βιβλιοθήκης του Διδασκαλείου Κρήτης στο Ηράκλειο. Ο συγγραφέας Γεώργιος Κωνσταντινίδης γεννήθηκε το 1858 και είχε διατελέσει διευθυντής των Ζαριφείων Διδασκαλείων της Φιλιππούπολης και της Εμπορικής Σχολής της Χάλκης, καθώς επίσης και έφορος της Εθνικής Βιβλιοθήκης στην Αθήνα. Στο βιβλίο παραθέτει σε συνοπτική μορφή τα σημαντικότερα ιστορικά γεγονότα που αφορούν την πόλη των Αθηνών, από την αρχαιότητα και την περίοδο συγκρότησης της πόλης-κράτους έως και το δημοψήφισμα για την ανατροπή του μοναρχικού πολιτεύματος το 1924.

A lending library was operated in the Didaskaleion of Crete in Heraklion since the beginning of its establishment in 1901. It was a very important facility, which provided educational tools to the students of that time. After all, in the first years of the operation of the Didaskaleion, a municipal library had not yet been established in Heraklion. The municipal library was founded in 1908. In the last surviving consolidated list of books of the Didaskaleion, 666 titles were found, included in 5 Classification Categories (C.C.): a. Letters - Science - Art. b. Scientific. c. Free readings. d. Ancillary. e. Didactic. The above classification did not correspond to any strict thematic categorization given that some books of the same subject were classified in different C.C..
The C.C. "Letters - Science - Arts" included books on Greek and foreign literature, literary theory, history, philosophy, folklore and theology.
The book "Brief history of Athens" from the beginning to the present day belonged to the "Letters - Science - Arts" category of the lending library of the Didaskaleion of Crete in Heraklion. The writer Georgios Konstantinides was born in 1858 and had been the director of the Zarifios Educational Academy of Philippopolis and the Commercial School of Chalkis, as well as the curator of the National Library in Athens. In the book, he summarizes the most important historical events regarding the city of Athens, from antiquity and the period of formation of the city-state up to the referendum on the overthrow of the monarchy in 1924.

Une bibliothèque de prêtfonctionnait à Didaskalio (École pour la formation des enseignants) de Crète à Héraklion depuis son ouverture en 1901. C’était un service très important qui fournissait des supports et outils pédagogiques aux étudiants et aux étudiantes de l’époque. D’ailleurs, pendant les premières années de fonctionnement de Didaskalio, il n’y avait pas de bibliothèque municipale à Héraklion ; celle-ci a été fondée en 1908. Dans le dernier dernier catalogueré capitulatif de livres de Didaskalio qui a été retrouvé, 666 titres d’ouvrages ont été identifiés et ceux-ci étaient classés en 5 catégories : a. Lettres–Sciences – Arts. b. Ouvrages scientifiques. c. Lectures libres. d. Guides pratiques. e. Livres de didactique/ manuels scolaires. La classification présentée ci-dessus ne correspondait pas à une catégorisation stricte, étant donné que certains ouvrages de la même thématique avaient été classés en catégories différentes.
La catégorie «Lettres – Sciences – Arts» comprenait des livres sur la littérature grecque et la littérature étrangère, sur les théories littéraires, l’histoire, la philosophie, le folklore et les sciences des religions.
Le livre "L’Histoire d’Athènes de ses débuts jusqu’à nos jours" faisait partie de la catégorie «Lettres – Sciences – Arts» de la bibliothèque de prêt de Didaskalio (École pour la formation des enseignants) de Crète à Héraklion. Son auteur, GeorgiosKonstantinidis, est né en 1858 et a été directeur de plusieurs «Zarifios Didaskalio» (écoles) de Philippopolis (Plovdiv) et de l’École de Commerce de Halki, ainsi que conservateur de la Bibliothèque Nationale d’Athènes. Dans ce livre, il présente de manière succincte les principaux événements qui concernent la ville d’Athènes, de l’Antiquité jusqu’à la période de la constitution de la cité-Etat et jusqu’au référendum pour le renversement de la monarchie en 1924.
