Ιστορικό Σημείωμα: Οίκος Γενοβέζων εμπόρων-κουρσάρων που ηγεμόνευσε στη Λέσβο (1355-1462), την Αίνο (1376/1379-1456), την Παλαιά Φωκαία (1402/1404-1455), τη Θάσο (1419/1428-1455), τη Σαμοθράκη (1431-1456), τη Λήμνο (1453-1456) και την Ίμβρο (1453-1456). Η εραλδική αυτή σύνθεση είναι χωρισμένη κατά πάλο με τον οικογενειακό θυρεό των Γκατελούζων και έναν εστεμμένο αετό και φέρει στην κορυφή σταυρό με τέσσερα Β. Βρίσκεται στο έδαφος εντός του Κάστρου της Μυτιλήνης και η παρουσία των Β ερμηνεύεται ως σύμβολο των σχέσεων συγγένειας και επικυριαρχίας μεταξύ Γκατελούζων και Παλαιολόγων. Η παρουσία υποστηριγμάτων που συνοδεύουν το θυρεό (στη συγκεκριμένη περίπτωση δύο λεόντων), είναι αρκετά σπάνια στον Ελληνικό χώρο.

Historical Notice: Genoese family of merchants and corsaires who became lords of Lesvos (1355-1462) and eventually extended their rule over Ainos (1376/1379-1456), Palaia Phocaea (1402/1404-1455), Thasos (1419/1428-1455), Samothraki (1431-1456), Limnos (1453-1456) and Imbros (1453-1456). This particular heraldic monument, laid on the ground, is divided per pale, with the Gattilusi arms and a crowned eagle and surmounted by a chief with a cross charged with four "B". The presence of the "Β" is considered symbolizing the relations between Gattilusio and the imperial family of Paleologus. The presence of supporters depicted on either side of the shield (in this case, two lions rampant), is quite uncommon in the Greek areas.
