The Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece is a Legal Person of Public Law, under the supervision and control of the Ministry of Culture, founded in September 1944. Its founding Law changed in October 1981 (Law No. 1218) by a unanimous vote in the Parliament. It is a self-governing body of fine artists, governed by an 11-member Board of Directors, which represents it. The objectives of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece (EETE) are to promote artistic creation in Greece, to ensure the right of free artistic expression and of artistic work in all fields of the visual arts to concern for the interests of Greek artists who are engaged in the visual arts and to present proposals to the appropriate state agencies. In order to achieve its objectives, the Chamber has the responsibility to organize artistic events, such as exhibitions and congresses and to keep records of the artistic activity of its members. It looks after the protection of the interests of Greek artists as regards conditions of work and social insurance. It has the responsibility to study matters of public art education and aesthetic training, to contribute to the effort to preserve the aesthetic environment, to maintain contact and to collaborate with art organizations, both in Greece and abroad and to organize international exhibitions and competitions.
