In 1999, the Association “Friends of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle” decided to create a foundation entitled “Foundation for the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle” (IMMA), which was given the largest part of its property and all the relics, while the Association continued its operation in order to support IMMA. The Foundation assumes the main burden, on the one hand, of preserving and disseminating the memory of the struggles of Hellenism for the liberation of Macedonia and especially the Macedonian Struggle, and on the other hand, the scientific study of the modern history of Macedonia. To promote these aims, the Foundation operates under two arms: -The exhibition area of the Museum, which collects, preserves and exhibits relics, personal objects, archives and photographs related to the history of Macedonia in the 19th and 20th century and especially to the Macedonian Struggle. -The Centre for Macedonian History Research and Documentation (KEMIT), which aims at the scientific study, presentation and dissemination of the modern history of Macedonia. In December 2020, the renaming of the Foundation to “Foundation for the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and the Modern History of Macedonia” (IMMA) is approved.
