The Kalamata Public Library is one of the largest libraries in the Greek region and has been awarded the first prize of the Academy of Athens. It was founded in 1933 and is housed on the 5th floor of the Spiritual Center of Kalamata, in the center of the Messinian capital. The Kalamata Public Library has more than 90,000 book volumes, 2,500 magazine titles (60,000 issues) and 200 Messinian newspaper titles (more than 200,000 sheets), of which 42 date back to the 19th century.
