Punty or pontil is an essential tool for glass blowing which helps the practitioner to hold the workpiece in place while working on its design. A punty is an iron rod used to hold or shape soft glass. After you have shaped the glass vessel according to its requirements, you will need to attach punty to that vessel’s bottom portion. It will hold the vessel as you finish your work on the top area. Because of its attachment at the bottom, you may often see a ring-like scar under your vases or bottles made of glass. (EN)
Punty ou pontil est un outil essentiel pour le soufflage du verre qui aide le praticien à maintenir la pièce en place tout en travaillant sur sa conception. Un punty est une tige de fer utilisée pour maintenir ou façonner le verre mou. Après avoir façonné le récipient en verre en fonction de ses exigences, vous devrez attacher du punty à la partie inférieure de ce récipient. Il tiendra le navire pendant que vous terminez votre travail sur la zone supérieure. En raison de sa fixation au fond, vous pouvez souvent voir une cicatrice en forme d'anneau sous vos vases ou bouteilles en verre. (FR)
