Description

Ο Henry Miller ζωγράφιζε, όπως σημειώνει η κόρη του, κυρίως για ευχαρίστηση και ήταν ο τρόπος του για να χαλαρώνει. Πραγματοποίησε χιλιάδες πίνακες, τους περισσότερους από τους οποίους χάριζε, ανάμεσά τους και μια πολύ μεγάλη σειρά τοπιογραφιών στις οποίες περιλαμβάνεται και το έργο «Τοπίο της Καλιφόρνια. Η Χρυσή Πύλη στο Σαν Φρανσίσκο» που ανήκει στη συλλογή του MOMus-Μουσείου Σύγχρονης Τέχνης. Στο έργο συνυπάρχουν τα παραστατικά στοιχεία με στοιχεία αφαίρεσης, το χρώμα, το οποίο αποτελεί το δομικό στοιχείο της σύνθεσης και η μικρή κοφτή πινελιά στην επιμέρους αποτύπωση των οικιστικών περιοχών, που δημιουργούν μια λυρική ονειρική ατμόσφαιρα. Henry Miller painted, as his daughter notes, mainly for pleasure and it was his way of relaxing. He made thousands of paintings, most of which he gave away, including a very large series of landscape paintings which included "Landscape of California. The Golden Gate in San Francisco" which is part of the collection of the MOMus Museum of Modern Art. In the work, figurative elements coexist with elements of abstraction, color, which is the structural element of the composition, and the small sharp touch in the individual depiction of the residential areas, creating a lyrical dreamlike atmosphere.
