Jacks consist of two metal blades joined by a spring-like handle. The distance between the arms is controlled by the glassworker, who uses jacks for a variety of purposes while shaping the parison (for example, to form the mouths of open vessels). Depending on the angle at which the blades are held, jacks can be used to: shape the vessel as it is being inflated, create a constriction to help separate the glass from the blowpipe, or flare the opening of a vessel. The glassworker controls the distance between the blades to change the shape of the glass as it is rotating. (EN)
Les crics se composent de deux lames métalliques reliées par une poignée en forme de ressort. La distance entre les bras est contrôlée par le verrier, qui utilise des vérins à diverses fins tout en façonnant la paraison (par exemple, pour former les embouchures de récipients ouverts). Selon l'angle auquel les pales sont maintenues, les vérins peuvent être utilisés pour : façonner le vaisseau pendant qu'il est gonflé, créer une constriction pour aider à séparer le verre du chalumeau, ou évaser l'ouverture d'un vaisseau. Le verrier contrôle la distance entre les lames pour modifier la forme du verre lors de sa rotation. (FR)
